The Brazilians want to reinforce their squad with a number of foreigners ahead of the new season
Premier Soccer League giants Mamelodi Sundowns have enquired about the availability of Hungary-based Nigerian midfielder Vincent Onovo, according to a report by Soccer Laduma.
Onovo plays for Ujpest FC in the NB 1, the top level of the Hungarian football league system.
It is his second spell at the club. Onovo first left Ujpest for Danish side Randers in 2021 after a three-year stay with the Purples.
But the Abuja-born ace failed to find his rhythm with the Horses and was loaned back to Ujpest earlier this year.
Last month, Randers confirmed that Újpest had signed Onovo permanently as the defensive midfielder returned to familiar surroundings.
But Onovo may be on the move again as Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly looking to lure the former HJK Helsinki star down to South Africa.
It would be surprising to see Onovo consent to a move back to Africa just at the point he is reaching the peak of his career.
The deal may also be a complicating one for Mamelodi Sundowns, too. The 12-time Premier Soccer League winners have filled their five foreign quotas for the 2022/23 season as permitted per PSL club per season.
How the former African champions plan to incorporate Onovo into that setup is not yet clear.
Mamelodi Sundowns are one of the biggest clubs in South Africa, with the Brazilians winning the CAF Champions League in 2016, alongside several other domestic honours.
