Super Eagles star suspends contract at club ahead of Bundesliga move

The Super Eagles winger has activated one of FIFA’s statutes on Russia and Ukraine to seek a move to one of Europe’s biggest leagues

Chidera Ejuke has suspended his contract with CSKA Moscow as he inches closer to finalising a loan to Hertha Berlin.

CSKA announced the move in a statement on the club’s website and regretted the decision. The Russian giants also complained about FIFA’s statutes and where it has left Russian clubs.

“Striker Chidera Ejuke and midfielder Arnor Sigurdsson have used the temporary employment rules, which were approved by The Bureau of the FIFA Council, and suspended their respective deals with PFC CSKA until 30 June 2023,” CSKA Moscow said in a statement.

“PFC CSKA regrets the players’ decision, which was taken despite club’s effort and their contract duties. As was announced earlier, PFC CSKA plans to fill in lawsuits to defend its interests against FIFA’s decision, which we consider discriminatory and contrary to the statutes of that organisation.”

Ejuke has been on Hertha Berlin’s radar and has been reported to be very close to a move to the German league.

The former Heerenveen star will be playing under Hertha’s new coach, Sandro Schwarz and a man who saw him well in the Russian league as Dinamo Moscow manager.

The pacy winger is also eyeing a return to the Super Eagles after being left out of recent games.
