Rohr points to Super Eagles star as the perfect replacement for Lewandowski at Bayern Munich

The Polish striker is keen on a summer switch to Barcelona despite having a year left on his contract with the Bavarians

Former Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is convinced that Victor Osimhen is the ideal striker to replace Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich should the Polish international depart the Allianz Arena this summer.

Lewa to leave Bayern; the Ronaldo connection

Lewandowski has been with Bayern since 2014 when he joined on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

At 33, the former Lech Poznan star is still not looking like slowing down as he netted 35 goals in 34 league games and another 13 goals in 10 UEFA Champions League matches.

A dream move to Spain edges ever so close as Barcelona have already submitted a bid for the clinical finisher.

Bayern are resigned to losing Lewandowski and, as per Transfermarkt, the Bundesliga giants are looking to replace him with Manchester United frontman Cristiano Ronaldo.

What has been said

Ex-Girondins Bordeaux manager Gernot Rohr, however, believes a younger Osimhen could be the best alternative for Bayern.

Osimhen had an unsuccessful spell in Germany at Vfl Wolfsburg before succeeding at Sporting Charleroi, Lille, and Napoli.

And Rohr believes the 23-year-old is better equipped to handle the challenges of the German topflight.

“If Bayern let Robert Lewandowski go, Victor would be a good alternative,” Rohr told Sport Bild.

“I think he would prevail in Munich. Since he already has experience in the Bundesliga and speaks a little German, his adjustment period is of course shorter than with other players from abroad.”

Osimhen’s transfer status

Osimhen is expected to be among the most in-demand players during this transfer window.

Several Premier League sides such as Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Newcastle United have all contacted Napoli for his services.

The Super Eagles striker is known to admire the EPL, but he is open to spending another year in Naples.

Osimhen scored 14 Serie A goals last term to help Napoli secure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League competition.

A move to any team not playing in Europe’s premier club competition may, therefore, not appeal to the Nigerian international.

The youngster has a contract with Napoli that only expires in the summer of 2025.
