Oshoala ruled out of WAFCON following knee injury

Super Falcons star suffered a ligament damage after being on the end of a strong tackle against South Africa

Asisat Oshoala has been ruled of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after picking up a medial collateral ligament injury on Monday.

Oshoala is Nigeria’s star player at the tournament but was disappointing against the Banyana Banyana as the Super Falcons lost.

Her injury is a major loss for the Super Falcons who will have to look on to other members of the team for the goods.

The Super Falcons have other attacking options in Gift Monday, Uchenna Kanu and Ify Onumonu.

Oshoala will leave for Barcelona on Thursday where she’s expected to undergo further tests on the knee and the extent of her injury will be revealed.

The Barcelona Femeni forward had been ruled out for two months last season but still emerged  top scorer in the Spanish league with 19 goals.

Her absence leaves Randy Waldrum with a selection conundrum as the four-time African Player of the Year had been expected to bring her quality to bear.

The Super Falcons are however expected to step up in the absence of their star forward.

Oshoala has been nominated for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year.
