One of Nigeria’s finest attacking talents has been a nightmare for defenders since finding his feet in Europe
Norway international defender Leo Ostigard has named Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen the strongest opponent he has come up against in his career.
Ostigard confessed on Wednesday during his presentation to the media as Napoli’s newest signing.
Napoli completed the signing of Ostigard from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday, July 18. The Norway international is expected to fill the gap left by Senegal’s Kalidou Koulibaly, who departed for Chelsea last week.
But Ostigard spent the second half of last season on loan at Genoa and came up against Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen in a Serie A clash in May.
Osimhen was unplayable at the Diego Maradona Stadium that day, scoring the opening goal and drawing the penalty for the second goal as Napoli ran out 3-0 winners.
Osimhen and Ostigard played from start to finish for their respective sides, but there was no doubt who the master of the day was.
And when asked at his presentation which striker has caused him the most nightmare, the 22-year-old responded: “The strongest opponent I have faced? Certainly (Victor) Osimhen.”
Osimhen will likely lead Napoli’s attack next campaign as the Neapolitans challenge for honours in the UEFA Champions League, Serie A, and Italian Cup.
A lot may change before the transfer window closes, though, as Bayern Munich are yet to replace Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker left for Barcelona recently.
Osimhen is one of the strikers being touted to replace the 34-year-old at Bayern.
