Nigerian players abroad: brilliant Adams lifts Lillestrom to victory, Ekpolo helpless in Norrkoping loss

The top five European leagues resume in August, but in the meantime, some Nigerian stars are doing the business in some of the lower leagues

Nigerian striker Akor Adam’s scored a second-half brace to help Lillestrom claim an outstanding 3-1 comeback victory at Kristiansund.

Lillestrom looked to bounce back to winning ways in the Eliteserien after a 3-0 trouncing at Stromgodset last week.

However, it looked like it was going to be the same old story for the canaries after Bendik Bye slotted in a penalty to put Kristiansund in front after twenty minutes.

Nonetheless, Adam’s had other plans. The former Nigeria youth international struck twice in 13 minutes to put Lillestrom in the driver’s seat. The 22-year-old then turned provider, setting up Holmbert Fridjonsson for Lillestrom’s third.

Lillestrom also had other Nigerian players on parade. Former Kano Pillars man Ifeanyi Matthew captained the side, while Igoh Ogbu operated from the defense.

The late onslaught ensured that the canaries ran out 3-1 victors at the Kristiansund Stadion. And the win keeps them at the top of the Eliteserien, four points clear of Molde who sit second with a game in hand.

Elsewhere in Sweden, Godswill Ekpolo played all 90 minutes for Norrkoping in their 1-0 loss at home to Sirius.

The game was pretty balanced, with few chances falling on both sides. Unfortunately for Ekpolo, Yukiya Sugita’s 57th-minute strike turned out to be the clincher.

The loss leaves Norrkoping in eleventh place on the Allsvenskan table, ten points away from Hacken who sit pretty at the top.
