I’m settling in very well”- Okoye opens up on Watford stay

The Super Eagles shot-stopper signed for the Hornets in January, but he joined the team in June

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is relishing his stay at Watford, as he says that the great attitude of the players and staff has helped him settle down quickly.

Okoye signed for the Hornets in January this year whilst they were still in the Premier. However, he remained at his former club Sparta Rotterdam until the end of the season.

The Nigerian shot-stopper linked up with his new employers in June, and despite the changes at the club, Okoye feels comfortable.

Following Watford’s relegation from the Premier League last season, they let go of Roy Hodgson. Then they employed former Forest Green boss Rob Edwards to lead their charge back to the Premier League.

Still, Maduka feels that the team spirit at the club could spur them on next season.

“It’s been fantastic,” Okoye told Watford Website.

“I’ve had a great time already, there are funny guys and good vibes here. I think that’s important, we feel connected to other players and the staff, I’m settling in very well.”

Despite his assertions, it has not been an easy start to life at Watford for the 22-year-old. The Hornets are already showing signs of weakness. They have failed to win any of their three preseason matches.

With Okoye in between the sticks, they have suffered two losses and one draw.

Nonetheless, they would look to fix their frailties and get back in form before the season begins.

Watford kick off their season with a fixture at home to Sheffield United on August 1st.
