The Les Bleus defender was caught in a transfer web of having to choose between Chelsea and Barcelona
Jules Kounde’s move to Chelsea was set to be finalised before Barcelona’s emergence and a truncation that has set the Blues faithful in utter disappointment.
Kounde’s deal was the second time Barcelona would hamper Chelsea’s bid for a player during this summer’s transfer window, having previously pipped them to Raphinha’s signing.
Sevilla announced on Friday how the Kounde deal came to be, as they explained what happened among the clubs.
Sevilla’s Director of Football, Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo, simply known as Monchi explained the details of the deal in an interview on Friday.
“This would have been the third time we’d have told him no. He’s a professional but you have to consider the person as well,” Monchi said.
“On Thursday night Koundé was ‘sold’ to Chelsea. They began to have doubts and pulled out.
“Then Barcelona appeared. The first time Alemany got in contact was on Monday.
“We received an offer that was lower than what we had in mind, but we renegotiated with them and reached an agreement for a club-record sale.
“Chelsea came back again, but Barcelona’s offer was better,” he said.
Chelsea fans have been left angered by the businesses done by Barcelona at the London club’s expense so far.
