Transfer: 19-year-old Nigerian winger set to swap Manchester City for Bayer Leverkusen

The Citizens are close to saying goodbye to one of their most talented youngsters as he bids to make a name for himself in Germany

Manchester City starlet Sam Edozie is set to sign for German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, according to reports.

Having excelled through the Manchester City youth ranks, Edozie appeared set to take the next step up to the senior team under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola.

The 19-year-old winger made his first-team debut in the 1-0 defeat to Leicester City in the Community Shield at the start of last season. But an injury to Edozie and stiff competition for places limited the youngster’s chances.

And according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Bayer Leverkusen have agreed a deal with Manchester City for Edozie, and he could be the latest player of Nigerian descent to move to the German top flight.

Leverkusen will hand Edozie a two-year deal to keep him at the club until the summer of 2024.

Born in London to a Nigerian father and an English mother, Edozie is a youth international for England, making his debut for the England U19s during a 2–0 victory over Italy U19s in September 2021.

The exciting winger, however, remains eligible to feature for the Super Eagles.
