Super Eagles striker admits possibility of Genk exit

The Nigerian striker had a brilliant campaign with the Castle Lords last summer, but his future hangs desperately in the balance

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has admitted that there is a possibility that he could leave Genk this summer as there are clubs that are interested in his services.

Dessers spent last season on loan at Feyenoord, and he impressed massively. His ten goals and two assists played a significant role in the Castle Lords’ second-place finish in the Europa Conference League.

However, Feyenoord refused to retain his services after a long back-and-forth with the Limburgers.

Nonetheless, even with Dessers’ return to Cegeka Arena, his future is not yet secured as he has hardly ever found any joy in Belgium.

There have been reports linking the 27-year-old with a move to Italy, but nothing concrete has materialized. Still, the former Utrecht man is not ruling out a move away from the former Belgian champions.

“As long as I’m there I will always give 100 percent for Genk,” Dessers told Voetbal Primeur.

“That was also the case in the year that I sat on the couch. But now I feel something is moving. After my vacation, I have to sit down with the coach we will then hear what the plans are.”

“It is too early to say I will leave, but it is possible. There is interest. Let’s stick with that.”

Since Dessers joined Genk, he has hardly been able to string a long run of games together. The Nigeria international could take a gamble by moving to another club where his brilliance would show.

Genk have placed a decent €4.5million price tag on the Super Eagles star, and it should not be a problem for a serious team.
