Super Eagles star set to join six-time Slovenian champions

The Super Eagles forward has been one of the best players in the league this season, and he could soon be rewarded with a move to Europe

Six-time Slovenian Prva Liga champions Olimpija Ljubljana are closing in on a move for Rivers United forward Ishaq Rafiu.

Rafiu has been one of the standout performers in the Nigeria Professional Football League. The 21-year-old has notched 14 goals and three assists this season, helping Rivers United to the NPFL title with three games to spare.

His performances also earned him his debut in Jose Peseiro’s first game in charge of the Super Eagles against Mexico.

However, Rafiu could be on his way to Europe this summer, as Snportal reports that Slovenian top-flight side Olimpija Ljubljana are close to completing a transfer for the former Remo Stars man.

Olimpija are one of the biggest clubs in Slovenia with six league titles and seven domestic cups. Last season, they finished third in the league, eight points behind winners Maribor.

If the move goes through, Rafiu would join the long list of Nigerian players who have left the league after having a good season.
