Peseiro gives verdict on Super Eagles’ performance against Ecuador

The three-time African champions suffered a second consecutive loss under Peseiro, but the Portuguese gaffer saw some positives in their performance

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has stated that despite their 1-0 loss to Ecuador, Nigeria put up a better performance than the previous game against Mexico, which they lost 2-1.

The Super Eagles locked horns with Ecuador in their second game under Peseiro. However, the result did not go as expected, as an early goal from Pervis Estupinan was enough to do the damage for La Tri.

Nigeria created many chances and recorded five accurate shots, but none beat the 34-year-old Ecuadorian keeper Alexander Dominguez.

Following the loss, Super Eagles tactician Peseiro believes that there was a rise in performance levels, and he believes that if the team gets more time to train together, they will perform better.

“I think we played much better than Mexico,” Peseiro said at the presser after the game, as per Colin Udoh.

“Today I saw more pressure, we created more opportunities, we created some against Mexico, but today I saw more and some organization in how we played.

“Against Mexico, we trained two times; for some players, it was once. The reason for the improvement is we have now trained four times, so we had to improve.”

The Super Eagles will now turn focus to the 9th of June, when they will take on Sierra Leone in the opening fixture of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

  • I hope most nigerian fans will be patient until good results start manifesting. Many of them expect you to hit the ground running. If that doesn't happen by the next 2 games, they will start calling for your head sir
