John Obi Mikel was Romelu Lukaku’s teammate at Chelsea before the attacker made a big money move at the time to Everton
The former Super Eagles captain believes his former teammate is struggling in the Premier League because scenes have changed.
Mikel speaking on Naija FM 102.7 while doing media rounds in Lagos said Lukaku is struggling because the Premier League is really fast while the Serie A where the Belgian is coming from is really slow.
Code mixing pidgin and English language, Mikel when asked if Lukaku is a square peg in a round hole at Chelsea said; “No. Na the league. The league is totally different. English league – too powerful, too strong, too fast whereas Italian league is too slow,”
“Yeah (he has energy and pace), but the pace of English football dey way (is way) too much for Italian league. Italian league you go play am until you be 40 years old (until you’re 40 years old) but you’ll put in way more energy and more work in the Premier League.”
Mikel is in Nigeria on a programme tagged “Back2Base” as he will spearhead a talent hunt for kids in various sports.
