Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen was conspicuously missing in the Super Eagles’ 30-man squad to face Mexico and Ecuador
Osimhen has asked national team handlers to excuse him from the friendly games against Ecuador and Mexico, sources close to the NFF have revealed.
The former Lille attacker, dubbed arguably the best player in the current Super Eagles fold and one of the best in Europe was not on the list, courting a reaction from fans of the senior national team.
With a substantive coach or Technical Adviser yet to be announced, the Chief Coach Salisu Yusuf and his assistants, Usman Abdallah, Finidi George and Ike Shorunmu drew up a list of players for the games.
Nine forwards were called up for the games including Sadiq Umar, Cyriel Dessers, Emmanuel Dennis, Enyimba’s Victor Mbaoma and Rivers’ Ishaq Rafiu, Kelechi Iheanacho, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, Ahmed Musa and Moses Simon.
Also missing from the squad is Taiwo Awoniyi who has been impressive in the Bundesliga where he has scored 13 goals.
Genk’s Paul Onuachu is also absent from the squad.
