Report: FIFA delivers ruling on NFF vs Rohr contract dispute

After months of drawn daggers over a contractual dispute between the NFF and Gernot Rohr, the world’s football governing body has delivered a judgement

FIFA has ordered the NFF to pay former coach, Gernot Rohr his entitlements but the Franco-German will be getting less than his expectations.

The world football governing body in a judgement believed to have been delivered to the NFF on April 22nd asked the federation to pay the sum of $380,000 instead of $1m being requested by Rohr.

The NFF had agreed to pay till the end of his contract in December 2022 but Rohr approached FIFA to report a breach of contract and demanded an additional sum as he posited he was sacked without just cause.

While Rohr’s request was taken on board, he didn’t get what he desired in financial returns through FIFA’s judgement. His case was “partially accepted insofar as it is admissible”.

The ruling by the Fifa players’ status chamber added that the NFF would be sanctioned if Rohr was not paid in full within 45 days.

“If full payment (including all applicable interest) is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the respondent [the NFF] shall be imposed a restriction on receiving a percentage of development funding, up until the due amounts are paid,” the BBC reported the FIFA decision as saying.

The decision hasn’t caught the NFF unawares as they’d deemed his payments till December 2022 a possibility, but must pay in the next 45 days in order to avoid stricter sanctions.

Nigeria is incurring another monetary sanction after it was fined $150,000 for the breach of peace at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium during the World Cup qualifiers fixture against Ghana.

Rohr is reported to be favourite to land Mali’s vacant coaching job while the Super Eagles are also expected to announce a new coach soon.
