Lagos-based MFM got trounced again on Sunday by Rivers United
Rivers United on Sunday thrashed MFM 5-0 in Port Harcourt to open a 7-point lead on the summit of the NPFL.
Esor Nelson Okwa opened scoring for Rivers in the 17th minute and a Chijioke Akuneto double in the 45th and 46th minute gave the league leaders a three-goal lead.
George Akpabio scored the fourth in the game while league top scorer, Ishaq Rafiu scored the fifth of the night off a 90th minute free kick.
In the Oriental derby, Rangers International of Enugu defeated Heartland of Owerri. Abia Warriors defeated Remo Stars 2-0 at Okigwe.
Gombe United defeated Sunshine Stars 1-0 while Shooting Stars of Ibadan squandered many chances but defeated Niger Tornadoes by a lone goal.
Kano Pillars came back from behind to defeat Kwara United while Lobi Stars also struggled from behind to a 2-1 defeat of Katsina United.
Deji Ayeni’s Akwa United were held to a 1-1 stalemate at the Nest of Champions in Uyo. Wikki Tourists won 2-0 against Dakkada in Bauchi while Nasarawa overcame Plateau United.
Rivers United, Plateau United, Rangers of Enugu and Remo Stars currently occupy the four top spots in the league while Dakkada, Kano Pillars, Heartland and MFM are in the relegation zone.
The Stanley Eguma-led Rivers United side currently lead with 58 points from 27 games and are followed by Plateau United with 51 points.
