Major opening secured for Maduka Okoye at Watford

The Super Eagles goalkeeper featured in his last game for Sparta Rotterdam last weekend as he saved them from the drop

Maduka Okoye has left Rotterdam a hero as he came up clutch again for the club in their battle against relegation. With that tussle won, he moves next to Watford where he will be a part of the Hornets’ drive to play in the Premier League next season.

Okoye was signed in January but was loaned back to the Netherlands to help the club in their battle against the drop. True to the plan, Sparta Rotterdam beat the drop on the last day of the season as they defeated Heracles 3-1 away from home.

The goalkeeper joined the rest of the squad to celebrate the massive victory as they chanted his name.

Watford’s current first-choice goalkeeper Ben Foster has announced he’s leaving the club at the end of the season.

Foster announced his exit on his official Twitter account on Monday and appreciated the club’s fans for their support.

“The ups, downs, good, bad & ugly…it’s all part of the journey!

“My time at Watford FC is up, but a huge thanks for all the support & love I’ve received from fans, players & staff in the 6 years with the club, it’s been a blast!

“Looking forward to what next season will bring, ” the 39-year old goalkeeper wrote.

With Foster set to leave the club, Okoye has one battle less on his hands as he steps into the big shoes of the former England goalkeeper.
