The Wales-based club are eyeing promotion to the English Premier League and have identified a Nigerian defender as key to that objective
Championship campaigners Cardiff FC are expected to announce the signing of Nigerian full-back Jamilu Collins on a free transfer within the next few hours.
According to a report by Cardiff City Live, Collins is set to undergo a medical in Wales today (May 19), after he is expected to ink a long-term deal with the Bluebirds.
Collins was with German side Paderborn over the last five years, helping them achieve two promotions to reach the Bundesliga in 2019.
One of the highlights of Collins’ time in Germany was when the left-back scored a 30-yard thunderbolt past Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer in September 2019.
But after failing to extend his contract with Paderborn, the 27-year-old will become a free agent on July 1st and is closing on moving to Wales.
A versatile defender, Collins can play at centre-back, wing-back, and on the left-hand side of midfield. However, his primary position is as an orthodox left-back.
A regular international, Collins has 25 caps for the Super Eagles and played for Nigeria in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, featuring for 90 minutes in their 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau.
Before joining Paderborn, Collins was for five years on the books of Croatian side Rijeka FC.
