Super Eagles attacker set for summer Premier League move

Super Eagles attacker, Taiwo Awoniyi spent six years on the books of Liverpool but never got to  feature for the Reds.

Nigeria and Union Berlin forward, Awoniyi is set to make a Premier League move when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season.

Awoniyi, who has had a scintillating season in the colours of Union Berlin has scored 12 goals and assisted once in 26 league games.

His goals return are currently the best ever seen by a Union attacker in a single season as he’s built a cult hero status at the capital club.

According to information exclusively gathered by Soccernet from sources close to Awoniyi, the attacker is set for a move to the Premier League at the end of the current season but is yet to decide where he’s headed.

Various clubs including Newcastle United, West Ham and Southampton have signified interest in his signature but the player and his agent are yet to make a decision on the move.

Awoniyi’s move is expected to be a club record transfer for Union Berlin, one and a half season after first joining the club on loan from Liverpool. Union signed the attacker on a €5m deal at the beginning of the season and may be cashing out after just a season.

The attacker loves the Premier League, according to sources and believes he still has unfinished business in the England after how his Liverpool career went.

He was sent on loan seven times to six clubs in six years by the Reds, after failing to secure a work permit.

Awoniyi has since become a full Nigerian international, representing the country and impressing in a major tournament and won’t have work permit issues again.

With some of his friends and family also in England, he sees the country as a good destination for his career and it will further help his national team chances.

Awoniyi joined Liverpool as a teenager in 2015 from Nigeria and has had a topsy-turvy European sojourn. The ongoing season has been the best of his career so far.
