The Nigeria international could have been the hero for the Foxes, but a late Guimaraes clincher ensured that Leicester City left with their tails between their legs
Super Eagles striker Ademola Lookman was left disappointed after Leicester City’s painful 2-1 defeat against Newcastle on Sunday.
Lookman’s 19th-minute goal put Leicester City in the driving seat when they welcomed Newcastle to the King power on Sunday. But their joy was cut short after Newcastle equalized through Bruno Guimaraes eleven minutes later.
The Foxes had a decent performance on the afternoon, but a late Guimaraes strike ensured that the magpies ran out 2-1 winners.
Lookman scored his second goal in consecutive Premier League games, but he was disappointed with the result, as he believes his side deserved a better result.
“It was definitely a sucker punch,” Lookman told Leicester CityTV.
“The least we should come away with from that game is a draw. Obviously, they go on the counter, and they score, so it’s a disappointing result. The game’s over now, so we’ll just look forward to Wednesday and come back from that and hopefully get the win there.
“I think we created good chances today. It’s just a shame we couldn’t work it better in those moments and kill the game. It’s just disappointing.”
It is unlikely that the Foxes would qualify for Europe, as they sit ninth, twelve points off seventh-placed West Ham, but with two games in hand.
Nonetheless, they would look to ensure a solid end to the season with eight games left. They travel to Goodison Park to play relegation-threatened Everton on Wednesday.
