Inter Milan great wants to coach Super Eagles

The three-time African champions are yet to get a substantial handler, several weeks after Augustine Eguavoen stepped down from his interim role

Former Sampdoria and Cagliari coach Walter Zenga has shown interest in becoming the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles.

According to Tutto Napoli, Zenga is believed to have made contact with the Nigeria Football Federation and may have submitted his application at the body’s secretariat.

Soccernet.ng earlier reported that the NFF has lined up several top-rated tacticians, including former Sporting Lisbon coach Jose Peseiro, ex-Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde, former PSG and France coach Laurent Blanc and former PSV Eindhoven manager Phillip Cocu for the vacant Super Eagles head coach position.

And Zenga, who last coached Cagliari in 2020, has also thrown his hat into the pool with the intention of returning to coaching.

A former Inter Milan goalkeeper, Zenga enjoyed a successful playing career, winning the Serie A in 1989 and the UEFA Cup in 1991 and 1994 with the Nerazzurri.

Regarded by many as one of the best goalkeepers of all time, Zenga transitioned smoothly into coaching in 1998. And the 61-year-old three-time IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper has since managed clubs in the United States, Italy, Turkey, Romania, Serbia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and England.

The highlight of his coaching career was winning the league and cup double with Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade in 2006.
