The Super Eagles striker has played a significant role to help his side’s fortunes this season
Former Netherlands international Pierre Van Hooijdonk has praised Feyenoord striker Cyriel Dessers for his brilliant displays this season.
The on-loan Genk star has been instrumental to Feyenoord’s achievements this season. Despite his lack of game time, the Super Eagles star has been consistently brilliant for the former Dutch champions.
Dessers continued with his outstanding displays on Thursday night, bagging a brace for his side against Slavia Prague to help them to the semifinals of the maiden season of the Europa Conference League. His two strikes ensure that he has scored 32 percent of Feyenoord’s goals in the Conference League.
Former Celtic, Feyenoord, and Benfica star Van Hooijdonk who was a free-kick king in his playing days, says that Dessers is not the best striker in the World, but he appreciates the Nigerian star’s abilities.
“He’s a really good striker,” Van Hooijdonk told Voetbal Primeur.
“There are better strikers, that’s true, but there are also decent strikers. You can’t deny him.
“He is relatively fast and very physical. He is indeed not a starting player, but his value is enormous.”
Dessers has 15 goals and four assists in 34 appearances for Feyenoord this season, and he would look to add to his tally as the Red and White push for their first European title in 30 years.
