The Nigerian continued his excellent scoring form in Europe as Feyenoord held Olympique Marseille in the first leg of their Europa Conference League tie
Cyriel Dessers opened the curtains for Feyenoord on Thursday as they battled Marseille in the semifinal of the Europa Conference League.
The Super Eagles attacker took his goals in the competition to ten as he masterminded an important home victory for Feyenoord.
The on-loan Genk attacker opened scoring in the 18th minute courtesy of a Luis Sinistera assist.
Feyenoord must have thought they’d hit the seventh heaven when they scored the second just two minutes after Dessers’ opener. This time, Sinistera turned goalscorer in the game after being assisted by Arsenal loanee, Reiss Nelson.
The third goal of the game was made in Africa as Congo’s Cedric Bakambu assisted Senegal’s Ahmadou Bamba Nieng.
Gerson helped the visitors restore parity at De Kuip five minutes before halftime as Marseille turned the game on its head.
Dessers continued from where he stopped in the first half, scoring as early as the 46th minute in the second half to put Feyenoord back in the lead.
The attacker was substituted in the 82nd minute for Alireza Jahanbakhsh but had done enough to give Feyenoord a good 3-2 result in the first leg.
