Foremost Nigerian football club rivalry ends in stalemate

Shooting Stars vs Rangers

Spoils shared, no victor, no vanquished!

Shooting Stars of Ibadan and Enugu Rangers have played out a stalemate in a pedigree clash at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

The first night game to be hosted by the home side in many years didn’t live up to its billing in terms of fans attendance with many empty seats seen in the stadium.

The football in display was however good to see with both teams showing brilliance in patches.

Shooting Stars attacker, Gafar Olafimihan needed medical attention just a quarter of an hour into the game as he collided with Rangers’ David Chimezie.

The Oluyole Warriors looked lively for much of the first half, recording three shots with two on target in the first half hour. The Flying Antelope however raised the curtains on the first minute of stoppage time through Elijah Ani.

Shooting Stars drew level on the 56th minute through Chinedu Enuademu before the goalscorer was subbed off two minutes after he grabbed the equaliser.

The home side continued to pile pressure on the Rangers defence with midfielder Malomo Taofeek’s 62nd-minute free kick palmed to safety by Seidu Mutawakilu in the Rangers goal.

Former Kwara Utd winger Wasiu Alalade was subbed off seven minutes after the hour mark as returnee Faleye replaced him. The former Plateau Utd attacker’s introduction however did little to improve the scoreline as both teams settled for a point apiece.

Rangers are currently fifth on the log, seven places above their agelong rivals.
