Victor Osimhen’s goalless run against the Seven Sisters of Serie A extended to eight on Sunday, in spite of a strong performance against AC Milan.
The Super Eagles striker was in his finest element on the night as he gave a spirited performance.
Former Arsenal and Chelsea striker, Olivier Giroud scored Milan’s only goal on the night and it proved to be the winner.
Napoli started the game on the front foot with the lively Osimhen getting involved early in the game. In the 21st minute, the Nigerian attacker wired off the post before going down on a collision a minute later.
The first half ended with both teams balancing each other out. Milan however came out of the blocks in the second half and took the game to the Neapolitans.
Milan’s energetic second-half opening soon resulted into a goal as Giroud got on the end of a cross four minutes after restart. The goal came after Napoli failed to deal with the ball in the box and it proved to be a sucker-punch for the home side who had 75% of the stadium’s official capacity filled.
Osimhen gingered his teammates on afterwards and showed good energy and strength on occasions, holding off the defensive pairing of Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu. The cast again, came up short for the Nigerian as he got into decent positions many times but was hardly found.
In the 86th minute of the encounter, the attacker forced a save from Milan goalkeeper, Mike Maignan after a bust of pace through to the right side of the Milan goal but the angle proved too tight for him on the occasion.
AC Milan now sit top of the Serie A, with city neighbours, Inter Milan second with a game in hand and Napoli third on the log, three points from the top.
