Okoye ranked one of Europe’s best young goalkeepers

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye has been ranked as one of Europe’s best young goalkeepers.

Sparta Rotterdam manager Henk Fraser hailed the Nigerian for his good performances this season and said his growth has been impressive.

Okoye is in his second season with Sparta Rotterdam and has shown great exploits. His performances were rewarded in January when he signed a five-and-a-half years contract with Watford before getting loaned back to Sparta till the end of the season.

Fraser said Okoye has the potential to be the best as he’s proving to be tough mentally while his development has improved.

“He has it in him to be the best because his foundation is very grounded. Over time you see his mental strength and development increase and it is helping him,” Fraser told reporters after Okoye kept another clean sheet against Go Ahead Eagles.

The goalkeeper has kept five clean sheets this season and was a bulwark in the Sparta Rotterdam goal a fortnight ago when they faced Vitesse Arnhem. Okoye also earned rave reviews that week for his good performance. His team currently sit 17th on the log, just a place above the bottom dwellers in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Despite the struggles faced by Sparta Rotterdam this season, Fraser, who doubles as assistant coach with the national team said Okoye is one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe at the moment.

“He has done well this season enough to say he is in the debate of the best young goalkeepers in Europe at the moment.”
