The legendary forward says he is a big fan of one of Nigeria’s brightest youngsters in the game
Iconic Chievo Verona striker Sergio Pellissier has hailed Napoli star Victor Osimhen for quickly adapting to the Italian Serie A, a league known for its astute defensive leanings.
Despite suffering injuries and coronavirus-related issues, Osimhen scored ten Serie A goals in 24 matches last season after his club-record move to Napoli from Lille.
Another significant injury that required surgery kept him out of action for two months this term, but he has already managed nine goals in 15 top-flight appearances. The former Sporting Charleroi lad could become the first Nigerian to hit double figures in two separate seasons in the Italian Serie A if he finds the net against Udinese at the Diego Maradona Stadium on Saturday.
Tall, strong, and fearless, Osimhen is the kind of striker Pellissier loved to pair with during an illustrious career at Chievo Verona spanning almost two decades.
Chievo’s all-time top goalscorer and record appearance holder, Pellissier, reveals he admires Osimhen’s physical and technical qualities.
The one-cap Italy international says he is even more impressed with how Osimhen has excelled in a league as notoriously defensive as the Italian Serie A.
“Osimhen? I have always liked him very much; he knows how to score, he is an excellent player who can improve,” Pellissier told Vikonos Web Radio/TV as per TuttoNapoli.
“He has great qualities and playing in Italy is difficult, tactical football, defensive, but he is valid, then he knows how to score. And if Luciano teaches him where and how to improve, that’s it.”
Osimhen, who scored the winning brace against Hellas Verona last weekend, will look to help Napoli reach the summit of the league table with another win against Udinese today.
The Nigerian forward is then expected to take the next flight to Abuja to join the Super Eagles in their quest to beat Ghana to one of the five Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup tickets.
