The Nigeria international continues to show his quality after scoring in the Neapolitans 2-0 win against Venezia on Sunday
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is the first Napoli player to reach double figures this season following his goal against Venezia.
In his first start since returning from a facial injury that ruled him out for two months, Osimhen put Napoli ahead with a superb header before Andrea Petagna wrapped up the win in stoppage time.
The goal was Osimhen’s sixth in the Italian Serie A this season, making him Napoli’s second-highest goalscorer in the league after Dries Mertens.
However, the Nigerian striker is the club’s top scorer in all competitions this season. In addition to his six league goals, Osimhen also has four goals in the Europa League.
The 23-year-old has now scored ten goals in 17 games for Napoli this season despite missing two months of action.
He has also equalled his tally for last season, although he scored all the ten goals in the league. But with 14 games to go, Osimhen is on course to equal and eclipse the ten league goals he scored last season.
Osimhen’s numbers are impressive not only because he has missed two months of action but also because they were all non-penalty goals.
Only Tammy Abraham has a similar record in the Italian top-flight this season, having scored ten league goals for AS Roma without taking a penalty.
Osimhen will hope to build on his confidence when Napoli take on Inter Milan in a top of the table clash on Saturday.
