Brilliant Onuachu helps Genk returns to winning ways

It was a disappointing outing for the Smurfs last time out, but they have returned to winning ways

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu got an assist, as Genk beat Zulte Waregem 2-0 in the Belgian Jupiler League.

The Smurfs were back in action after their 2-1 loss to Royal Union last Tuesday. Genk went into the fixture, losing just one of their previous five games, while Zulte Waregem had lost two of their last five.

Genk controlled the game from the start, but they found it hard to create clear cut chances.

Nevertheless, their breakthrough came in the 36th minute, as Zulte Waregem midfielder Omar Govea scored in his net to put the Smurfs ahead.

Paul Onuachu was a threat in the box, but he could not muster any shot on target in the first half.

In the second half, the away side came out to attack, but they failed to create chances. It was a rather drab second half. But Onuachu rose to the occasion in the 47th minute, as he supplied the assist for Kirian Thorsvedt to make it 2-0 for the Belgian champions.

Onuachu was substituted in the 75th minute, the Super Eagles star registered two wayward shots, and he had 35 touches.

The victory takes Genk to eighth position in the league, 25 points off leaders Royal Union SG.
