“I can’t wait to give it my all” – Super Eagles star reacts to surprise Afcon call-up

The withdrawal of Victor Osimhen and Emmanuel Dennis has opened the doors for others to make the party to Cameroon belatedly this week

Slavia Prague forward Peter Olayinka says being called up to join the Super Eagles squad to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations is a dream come true for him.

Despite being a three-time Czech Republic league champion, Olayinka was a fringe national team member during the managerial reign of erstwhile head coach Gernot Rohr.

The 26-year-old attacker saw ten minutes of action spread across two international caps during the German manager’s five years and four months spell with the three-time continental champions.

Still, Rohr named Olayinka in the 40-man provisional list for Cameroon 2021, but the ex-Zulte Waregem forward’s name was excluded when interim coach Augustine Eguavoen released the 28-man roster for the tournament.

However, Olayinka was called to replace Emmanuel Dennis after Watford stopped the exciting attacker from honouring national team duty.

Olayinka immediately seized the opportunity and reported to the Super Eagles Abuja camp.

It will be the forward’s first appearance at the continent’s biggest football event, and he is relishing the chance to shed sweat and blood for dear fatherland.

“I’m really excited; it’s a dream come true for me,” Olayinka told Slavia’s official website.

“I’m really looking forward to the tournament; I can’t wait to give it my all.”

After recovering from an injury that troubled him at the start of the season, Olayinka has posted impressive stats for Slavia.

The ex-KAA Gent has hit six goals and added two assists in all competitions for the Czech champions, despite being deployed mainly as a winger.

  • Except Denise himself wishes to have withdrawn himself form representing Nigeria at this month AFCON, else God will punish ranieri by making him sacked and also getting the team relegated.

  • Nonsense white sheeps would not allow Denise to come because of late notice but the late notice didn't affect king ekong because Denise and Ekong are not in the same football club.

    • Eking was on the 40man list and Dennis wasn’t. Dennis invitation was late. We need to be realistic and forget sentiments. Coach made a late call and things don’t work that way. People kept saying they should be relegated forgetting that they are employee of 3 still on to be 4 of our top players.

      • Don't say what you don't know please,Dennis was on the 40men list, even on the last 28list submitted by eguavon, his stupid coach wouldn't allow him come by threatening him

  • Peter Olayinka is a good striker but I guess calling up Cyriel Dessers should've been a good replacement for Emmanuel Dennis based on current form.

And call up Ademola Lookman to replace Victor Osimehen. But I'm hearing that Lookman is not finally been cleared up to play for Nigeria by Fifa..

  • Though the invitation to release Dennis got to Watford late, but obviously Dennis does not want to represent Nigeria at Afcon. He feels he's on top of the world at the moment. He thinks the invitation came because Oshimen is injured. Its NOT just the coach of Watford, it's Dennis.

  • Ranieri has come to say NFF should make their case known to Watford board as he cannot take the decision all alone. Have NFF reached out to the Watford management board is a question begging for answers!!!!

  • There is no player on earth that won't jump at invitation to the national team whenever an invitation has been extended. Now, when the invitation is already late, there is little or nothing the player in question can do except to fate of the club or coach. This is what I want us to know.

Dennis would love to play for Nigeria but unfortunately, his invitation was already late. After all, he was once invited but Genort Rohr didn't give him enough time to prove himself.

  • How I wish Cyriel Dessers ditches Nigeria for Belgium or another country. In fact, NFF is humiliating that guy with series of snub despite being in good form at present.

  • I think Nigeria iss defeated as far as #AFCON 2021 is concerned. Why change coach ay this crucial moment? That change of coach should after the afcon and the world cup.
