The Nigerian international is back in training weeks after suffering multiple facial fractures that required surgery
Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti is confident that Victor Osimhen will make a quick and complete recovery from the cheekbone and orbital fractures he suffered last month.
Spalletti has revealed that the Neapolitans have put everything in place to ensure that Victor Osimhen returns to active football as soon as possible.
That is an excellent development for the Nigerian who was ruled out until the new year after he fractured multiple portions of his face in a clash of heads during his side’s Serie A faceoff with Inter Milan in November.
Osimhen was expected to be sidelined for three months, but images of him training with a special face mask emerged on Wednesday, three weeks after he had his face operated on.
And speaking at the press conference on the eve of their Europa League match with Leicester City, Napoli coach Spalletti confirmed that the Super Eagles striker is nearing a return.
“Day after day we will urge him and see what answers he will give. Based on how he reacts, we will see the recovery times,” the Italian tactician said.
“Knowing the element, we are very confident for a recovery as soon as possible.
“The situation will be protected, but from the point of view of the player’s availability to shorten it a bit, everything possible will be done.”
Before his injury, Osimhen was Napoli’s best player by some distance. The club-record signing netted five goals in the Italian Serie A and four in the Europa League.
But since his absence, Il Partenopei have won just one of the four games played and have been knocked off the summit of the league table by AC Milan and Inter Milan.
