The former Manchester City star was forced to retire from professional football following the heart problems he suffered in Barcelona’s draw against Alaves
Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has paid his respect to Sergio Aguero after the former Atletico Madrid striker announced his retirement from professional football.
Ndidi, who battled Aguero at both club and international level, reshared a couple of pictures of their battles on his Instagram page as an appreciation of the striker’s greatness.
Aguero announced his retirement in a press conference in Barcelona, saying he has taken the decision for his health.
The 33-year-old complained of discomfort in his chest in Barcelona’s draw against Alaves in a La Liga match in October.
Aguero walked off the pitch in the encounter before going for further tests. Initially, it was believed he would be out for just three months, but further cardiac tests showed that it would be a major risk if he continued playing.
With that in mind, Aguero was forced to announce his retirement in an emotional press conference. Since he announced his retirement, he has received well wishes from his colleagues, including Lionel Messi.
The Argentine won a lot of titles in his playing career, including five Premier League titles, the Europa League and the Copa America.
Aguero finished his career with 427 goals in 786 appearances.
