Report: NFF will not pay Rohr severance package as he remains on the brink

by Joba Ogunwale
December 1, 2021
in News, NewsNow, Nigeria

The German tactician's reign as the coach of the three-time African champions is set to come to an end, but he will not be getting severance package

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will not pay Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr severance package as both parties are set to end their partnership.

According to ESPN journalist Colin Udoh, the NFF will only pay Rohr his wages for the remainder of his current contract with no severance package.

Top NFF sources tell me there is no severance package in Gernot Rohr's contract. The federation is only obliged to pay him the remainder of his remuneration and that is what they are working on at the moment

— Colin NOT Collins (@ColinUdoh) December 1, 2021

Rohr's current contract as the Super Eagles coach ends at the end of next year after signing a new two-year deal last year.

However, the 68-year-old tactician is on the brink of the sack as the Super Eagles have regressed under him in the last 12 months.

The NFF is currently working out ways to pay him for the remaining 12 months of his current contract before the Africa Cup of Nations begins in January.

It remains to be seen who will lead the team to Cameroon, but former coach Jo Bonfrère has already submitted a formal application to the NFF as a potential candidate to take over from Rohr.

However, no decision will be taken until NFF pays off Rohr and fire him.

The typical African way of doing things . The AFCON is 4 weeks away and the training camp should commence soon. If the NFF dispense with Rohr’s services what time will his successor have in analysing the players or looking at any future prospects – anything short of a final for the Eagles will be seen as a failure . The only good thing is that the new manager will use the team to prepare for the World Cup qualifier . But all those who feel that Rohr is a failure should take a look in the mirror and ask themselves , where was Nigeria in the years leading up to his appointment. Look at the present crop and ask are they if the same quality as the JayJay and Kanu era . Rohr has not failed . The real failure is those that have failed to develop the league and infrastructure in the country. Those that have hidden agendas to have their own man in charge for their own selfish needs . Yes the Eagles don’t play the pretty fast football of yester years but they are winning matches and on the cusp of qualifying for another World Cup. Take Okoye in goal , many said he should not wear the number one jersey , yet I don’t see Watford coming for those others – I don’t see local teams in the final of the continental tournaments. A Nigerian is a Nigerian irrespective if he born or grown up in Lagos Enugu Abuja or London

Oga you cant know more than people who have played the game at the highest level.

You TALK Kanu…how many goals did he score or assist wearing NIGERIA’s colours in his 80+’caps compared to OSIMHEN who has played fewer games?

Did Kanu play AFCON 2013 or WC 2014? Sisnt we win and made second round respectively?

Did Kanu win any AFCON or make it past second round of the WC?

The fact is ROHR has regressed and have nothing new to offer.

A coach who resorts to begging a retired Igjalo who plays SUNDAY SUNDAY football in Saudi at the expense of the 3rd best scorer in the Bundesliga or an inform Dessers?

Or is it JOHN NOBLE who hasnt kicked a ball in anger for 4 months that was invited at the expense of the man who keeps him on the bench?

What about a Musa who keeps getting called up and being featured whild DENNIS is shunned?

You are one hundred percent right. Firing Roar at this point in time isn’t a good idea and they might come to regret it.
