Onuachu returns, Okoye missing as Iheanacho comes on as a late sub

The Nigerian striker had missed The Smurfs last league game, but he was back on Sunday night as league action continued in the Belgian top-flight

Super Eagles striker made his return to action on Sunday night as Genk played out a 1-1 draw against KV Mechelen in their Belgian Jupiler League clash.

Onuachu had missed Genk’s 3-2 loss to Club Brugge last week, but he came on for Joseph Paintsil in the 72nd-minute on Sunday night.

The Nigerian international could not add to his ten league goals, though, as Genk earned a point away from home.

Theo Bongonda put The Smurfs ahead in the 43rd minute, but Nikola Storm’s strike five minutes after the break meant both teams had to share the spoils.

Onuachu’s has now gone over a month without scoring for Genk, with his last goal coming on the last day of October.

Meanwhile, in the Dutch Eredivisie, Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was missing as Sparta Rotterdam suffered a 2-1 loss at AZ Alkmaar.

Okoye missed the game after picking up a shoulder injury against champions Ajax last week. The Nigerian international has been present in all of Sparta’s league games this season until Sunday.

In England, Wilfred Ndidi played all 90 minutes, while Kelechi Iheanacho was an 86th-minute sub as Leicester City lost 2-1 at Aston Villa.

But despite the loss, Ndidi showed his quality in the middle of the park. The former Genk star made four interceptions and five tackles, while he also won seven duels.

His compatriot Iheanacho had zero impact on the game as he only played the last four minutes of the encounter.
