Leicester City were humiliated at the Etihad, but Guardiola was impressed with the performances of the Nigerian duo
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised Nigerian duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Ademola Lookman after their performances in Leicester City’s 6-3 loss to Manchester City.
On Iheanacho’s return to the Leicester City starting XI, he put up an outstanding show against his former employers as he scored a goal and assisted two- one of which was Lookman’s.
Aside from his goal, Lookman looked dangerous going forward, and his runs kept the City backline in check. The former Everton man had five successful dribbles and won more than half of his duels.
Although the Foxes were porous defensively, the Nigerian duo still gave a good account of themselves up front, and Guardiola praised them for their efforts.
“They have big quality in transition, and then they changed shape,” Guardiola said after the game. “Vestergaard is an excellent player, and when Tielemans and Maddison can play, they have lots of quality, with Kelechi and Lookman too.”
Asides from the glowing recommendation from his former boss, Iheanacho would hope that his Boxing day performance would help him regain his spot in the starting eleven at Leicester City.
