Ex-Liverpool star urges Gerrard to make Aribo decision

The Super Eagles star was one of Gerrard’s best players during the former Liverpool captain’s time as manager at the Ibrox

Former Liverpool star Ray Houghton has advised Aston Villa gaffer Steven Gerrard to sign Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo.

The Irishman believes that the familiarity between Aribo and Gerrard could help the 25-year-old midfielder succeed in the English top-flight.

Aribo dumped Charlton to join Gerrard at Rangers two summers ago, and under the former Liverpool captain, Aribo grew immensely to the extent of being a mainstay in the Gers midfield.

However, Gerrard, who brought him to Rangers, left for Aston Villa in November. Nevertheless, Aribo hasn’t looked back, as he has scored three goals in his last five appearances for Rangers, of which one was a sumptuous strike in the Gers’ 2-0 victory at Hearts last weekend.

Performances like those are what have prompted the recommendation from the retired Ireland International, who advised Gerrard to go for the Nigerian and Finland’s Glen Kamara.

“I watched Glen when he played for Finland against the Republic of Ireland, I didn’t know much about him before, and I was impressed by him,” Houghton told bettingexpert.

“And then you got Joe Aribo. He’s out of contract, and he’s not going to sign a new one,” he added.

Aribo’s contract expires at the end of next season, and he hasn’t agreed to a new deal at Ibrox. The Villans could capitalise on this to lure the Nigerian to Villa Park.

  • Every success requires cooperation. At the beginning, Roht got the cooperation, we don't again what happened since no one will tell, the cooperation was withdrawn. I wish him well. But it's not befitting of Nigeria to act like this now. Our admins should know they are too old in this game to sack coach. Let's hire well.
