The Hornets have put ten goals up for consideration, but it is a Nigerian no longer at the club whose strike makes the cut
None of Emmanuel Dennis’ seven Premier League goals for Watford has made the club’s nomination for the Goal of the Year.
The Hornets enjoyed a highly successful 2021 in which they secured promotion from the Championship and entered the last month of the year outside the relegation zone.
Ten of the goals that have ensured Watford experience such a fantastic time have been hand-picked for the club’s fans to vote for which takes the ‘best goal’ accolade.
Signed from Club Brugge in the summer, Dennis has been one of Watford’s success stories in the top-flight, with the 24-year-old contributing seven goals and five assists in 15 games.
But none of his goals was selected, with the number 25 only making the highlight when providing the assist to Joshua King’s nominated strike against Everton in October.
Another Nigerian forward, Isaac Success, however, makes the shortlist.
Presently on loan at Udinese, Success returned from an injury layoff to help the Hornets’ final push for promotion last season.
The former Granada hitman scored just once in ten Championship games for Watford. But that wonderful effort, a half-volleyed rocket of a shot in the 2-0 defeat of Swansea City in the final match of 2020/21, could end up being the Hornets’ finest of the year.
