The Eagle has landed: Ighalo finally arrives at the Super Eagles camp

The  Al-Shabab striker has finally joined the rest of his teammates in camp, which officially signifies his return to international football

Odion Ighalo has finally arrived at the Super Eagles camp ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers against Liberia on Saturday.

Ighalo joined the rest of the squad on Thursday morning to bring the number of players in camp to 23. The former Manchester United striker was in high spirits in a video posted on Super Eagles social media pages.

The 32-year-old’s arrival officially confirms his return to international football, more than two years after he retired.

Ighalo had initially called time on his international career after he helped Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

However, head coach Gernot Rohr has been trying to convince him to come out of retirement for a while, and he has now accepted the call.

Before his initial retirement, Ighalo scored 16 times in 35 appearances for Nigeria. He will hope to add more to his tally when Nigeria take on Liberia and Cape Verde in their final group games in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

A win in either of the games will be enough to seal the Super Eagles spot in the final playoff round as long as Cape Verde fail to get maximum points from their two games.

  • Victor Moses is the next target to return, I celebrated our big brother, "Ighalo", welcome back . At 32, God will be with you.

  • Welcome back home Ighalo Odion. The Super Eagles will surely do better with the inclusion of Ighalo in the team. I guess he arrived late because he was obviously weighing his options and finally made up his mind for the love of the Nigerian nation. I salute his courage and determination. Obokhian Odion.

  • NFF and centiment, why not finish up the call up by including victor moses because it is so clear that we need that guy in that team at this point, our wingers are not making things happen like we use to know then, with the inclusion on victor moses honestly that our team will take a bright turn
