The Magpies are reportedly looking for a director of football after appointing ex-Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe as their new manager
Newcastle are reportedly considering making former Nigerian international Michael Emenalo their director of football.
According to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, Emenalo has already held talks with Newcastle owners in Saudi Arabia, and he is in pole position for the role.
The Magpies are the richest club in the world after they were bought by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
Newcastle have already signed Eddie Howe as their new manager following the sacking of Steve Bruce. But they are looking for a director of football with enough experience to work with Howe.
Emenalo fits the bill perfectly as he was in a similar role at Chelsea, where he was a success. The former Super Eagles star was behind the signings of players like Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas, Thibaut Courtois and many others for Chelsea.
He left his role as Chelsea’s director in 2017 to take up the same position at Monaco, although his time at the Principality was less of a success.
The 56-year-old is a former Nigerian international who made 14 appearances for the Super Eagles. He also represented the team at the 1994 World Cup.

Emenalo! Wow! What a fantastic move. A well experienced football personnel with a fantastic CV. It is a nice move for Newcastle.
An history made man with Sevier sense of humor. Emenalo is a great man with good sense with technique full of ideas.
Why is this man not appointed as super eagles coach?
Is sport director not different from coach?
