France star admits Watford’s disappointment over Ekong’s error

The Nigerian international was at fault for the opening goal in the Hornets Premier League loss to Brendan Rodgers men on Sunday afternoon

Watford captain Moussa Sissoko has revealed that the Hornets were disappointed with the opening goal they conceded against Leicester City but stopped short of blaming Super Eagles star William Troost-Ekong.

Ekong returned to the starting lineup for the game after he was dropped in the last two league matches, but his performance might have damaged his chances of starting more games.

The Super Eagles captain was at fault for the Foxes opening goal after he failed to deal with a Jonny Evans long ball, which allowed James Maddison to fire past Daniel Bachmann.

Although Watford drew level through Joshua King’s penalty after Emmanuel Dennis was tripped by Wilfred Ndidi, they went on to lose the match 4-2.

The result left a bitter taste in the mouth of Sissoko, who was disappointed with the way they conceded the opening goal.

“I think we started well, but we conceded the first goal and we are disappointed because [William] Troost-Ekong thought someone told him to leave the ball to clear it,” Sissoko said on Watford’s website.

Nonetheless, Watford will hope to bounce back from the defeat when they take on Chelsea at the Vicarage Road on Wednesday, but they could be without their talisman striker Dennis for the clash.

  • Mistake do happen in football. That’s how goals come. The number of matches(games) these guys play is wearing them down. And in addition to that international football. Sometimes It’s not healthy. They are humans not machines. It’s tough career. That’s why they play 10 - 15 years on average. I feel sorry for Ekong when that mistake occurred and Madison took the GIFT. And scored!!! I hope the coach don’t punish him so much for that. Watford won’t win the league. Lol. I just hope they are not relegated but stays for next season

  • Bachman needs to share the blame Foster would have been talking and telling him about the man behind - a vital difference

  • They lost 2-4 so who's taking the blame for the other goals?
It's so funny how they try to blame Ekong as if they lost by a lone goal.

  • New Super Eagles coach must exclude William troost and Leon Balogun from SE squad for Africo. because they shaky and weak defenders who make many faults and lapses on thier club and SE team; new coach must choose Chidozie Awaziem as abest center back now with Godfry Oboabona and Kenneth Omeruo or strong cb from local leauge; also the coach must choose a genius playmakers like Ovie Ejaria, Michael Oliseh, James Igbekime , or must interact Alex Iwobi for new pattern of playing whitch he(coach) set up for the Eagles.

  • Even me too it was a shame to me how super eagle defender do such a lackadaisical attitude without clearing dey ball ,so bad and disappointed to eagle
