Report: Why Crystal Palace star Michael Olise has failed to turn out for Nigeria

The 19-year-old is eligible to represent the three-time African champions, but he won’t be playing for the country anytime soon

Crystal Palace youngster Michael Olise has refused to turn out for the Super Eagles because his agent wants him to represent either Algeria or France.

Olise was born in England to a Nigerian father and a French-Algerian mother, making him eligible to represent any of the four countries.

He was called up, although as a standby, for Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin and Lesotho in March.

And according to BBC’s Oluwashina Okeleji, Olise was ready to represent Nigeria in both games. However, his agent called the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), informing them that he would like his client to complete his move to the Premier League.

Olise eventually moved to Crystal Palace from Reading in the summer following a remarkable season in the Skybet Championship.

However, according to Okeleji, his agent has now changed the youngster’s mind against representing the three-time African champions, hoping he plays for Algeria or France.

He hasn’t been called up by either of the two national teams, but it remains to be seen if he will get an invitation in the next international break.

  • Young Oliseh, you have a Nigeria name and blood following in your vain.Give to your fatherland. That is where you belong.

  • No one is indispensable,Nigeria is naturally endowed with talented footballers scattered all over the world. The young Michael Olise should left alone, the Super Eagles coaches should do extensive scouting to unveil the new Okochas. We definitely need creative midfielders, but Nigeria should not be seen as an option when France and Algeria are not interested in young Michael Olise.

  • Exactly if he decides to play for Nigeria so be it if he decides not to them do also, no one can force anyone to represent nigeria. When we have dilemma Ronaldo (V. Osihmen) we were dying in need for waste product (Tammy Abraham). now help me compare both strikers and tell me who is the best. both are in serie a let's wait and see who takes the lion shear by the end of the season.

  • With the invitation of kelechi Nwakali to AFCON, if he proves himself in the creative midfield, Nigeria may not look towards michael Olise again.

  • Micheal olise is a very good and experience player so that even wokali proved himselfe olise is also needed in super eagle of nigeria.
