Nigeria’s new midfielder injured, Onuachu misses a penalty as Amoo scores the winner

There was more footballing action in domestic leagues across Europe on Sunday, but it was a day of contrasting fortunes for Nigerian players

New Super Eagles midfielder Kingsley Michael made his second league appearance for Bologna in the Italian Serie A this season.

However, it was a disappointing end for him as he was taken off in the 72nd minute due to an injury. Michael had come in as a substitute in the 56th minute, but he only lasted for 16 minutes before he was taken off on a stretcher.

It has been a frustrating campaign for Michael as he has had to battle injuries. Before Sunday, the 22-year-old had missed Bologna’s last five games due to a muscle injury.

Meanwhile, in Belgium, Paul Onuachu missed an opportunity to add to his nine league goals this campaign after missing a penalty in Genk’s 2-0 loss to Royal Charleroi.

Shamar Nicholson put Charleroi ahead in the 56th minute, but Onuachu missed penalty in the 81st minute denied Genk the chance to restore parity.

It would prove costly as Ali Gholizadeh’s strike two minutes from time sealed a comfortable 2-0 win for the home side.

In Sweden, Akinkumi Amoo scored the only goal of the game as Hammarby beat AIK 1-0 in their league encounter.

The former Golden Eaglets star scored the winner in the 58th minute for his seventh goal in the 22 league appearances this season.

In France, Moses Simon played for 89 minutes while Samuel Kalu was a late substitute as Bordeaux and Nantes played out a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, in the Spanish La Liga, Samuel Chukwueze made his long-awaited return to the football pitch as he was introduced in the final 12 minutes of Villarreal’s clash against Osasuna.

However, the Yellow Submarines suffered a 2-1 home loss to their high-flying visitors.
