The former Bournemouth star has started the season well, but the three-time African champions are set to miss out on his talents following the former Manchester United manager’s comments
Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal has hinted that he would invite Villarreal’s winger Arnaut Danjuma to the Oranje squad for next month’s international break.
The latest news is a blow to Nigeria’s hopes of getting the former Bournemouth star to play for them at international level.
Danjuma is eligible to play for the three-time African champions as he was born in Lagos to a Nigerian mother and a Dutch father.
Although he has two appearances for the Dutch national team, with one goal to his name, it was in a Nations League and friendly encounter.
And with the player making both appearances at 21, Danjuma is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles according to FIFA rules.
However, following Van Gaal’s latest comments, it appears the three-time African champions will miss out on the 24-year-old.
Danjuma is not in the Dutch squad for the current international break, but Van Gaal revealed the former Bournemouth winger is in his plans.
The former Manchester United manager revealed Danjuma was not invited to the Netherlands squad this month because he changed team, but having settled in well at Villarreal, he’s likely to get an invitation next month.
“He has changed clubs, Van Gaal told the media as per Football Oranje.
He did that quite late, and he didn’t play in the first phase either. He generally fell in. He’s been doing great in the last four games and can be there, but I haven’t decided on that.
“I don’t need you for that to see that he’s doing well.”
“I can’t imagine he won’t be there next time, the former Barcelona manager added.
Danjuma has been in superb form this season, scoring five times in eight games for the Yellow Submarines, including four in six La Liga games.

Our media give so little credit to how far their write ups can reach. They gave hyped Danjuma so much that Van Gaal has to act. If you ask me, if Nigeria loses out on Danjuma our media are the main culprit, thanks to their over hyped reportage. They should learn to work behind the scene with our sporting authorities, sharing critical player data behind the scene. That way we won't have this kind of shock treatment again.
Ler him go, he never wanted eagles. He only hinted on eagles to draw oranje attention. He would make squad list for one world Cup at most and would have to deal with a little international career, he knows he can have massive representation with eagles, so he knows what he want. But soccer loving Nigerians would have to lower their expectations on players with dual nationality, as the very good ones will always choose European countries over Nigeria, and we cannot continue to have to choose from the ones who couldn't make the European cut. We have enough talent in Nigeria.
The ones we have already, have we been able to used them very well? why looking for players up and down, left and right, I think the problem we have with this recent team, is technical crew,no need, searching for players who are looking for a way to trend into European countries team,he does not want to play for Nigeria before, if he does, why waiting for Louis van Gaal call up next month? In which he is not sure about.
