Napoli provide new details on Osimhen’s injury

The Neapolitans have provided fresh information on the injury, which ruled the 22-year-old out of the trip to Salernitana

Napoli have released a statement that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has gastrocnemius contracture in his right calf.

Osimhen walked out of training ahead of Napoli’s Serie A clash against Salernitana, citing discomfort in his muscle.

He underwent a test to determine the nature of the injury, and it revealed a contracture of his right gastrocnemius.

A statement on Napoli’s website read: Victor Osimhen underwent diagnostic tests at the Pineta Grande clinic on Sunday, which revealed a gastrocnemius contracture in his right calf.

The player has begun a treatment programme and will be re-assessed over the coming days.

A return date is not known, but Osimhen could be back in a few days, depending on the extent of the injury.

Osimhen’s absence is a big blow for the Neapolitans as he has been their best player in all competitions this season.

The former Lille man has started the new campaign like a house on fire with nine goals in 12 matches for the Neapolitans.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr will also be keeping tabs on the youngster ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde and Liberia in November.
