The Gers coach has praised one of his Nigerian imports ahead of the Scottish Premiership clash against St. Mirren on Sunday
Rangers coach Steven Gerrard has praised the performance of Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun after he scored the opener in the club’s 2-0 win over Brondby in their Europa League clash on Thursday night.
It was Balogun’s first goal for the Ibrox giants since he joined the club last year. Balogun signed a one-year deal for the Gers following a six-month loan spell at Wigan.
The 33-year-old defender settled in well, helping the club win their first league title since 2011. Balogun’s performance triggered an automatic one-year extension in March, and his performances have been impressive so far.
He has made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Gers this season, and ahead of the trip to St Mirren, Gerrard has taken the time out to praise him.
“He is a top international player,” Gerrard told Rangers Youtube page.
Meanwhile, the former Liverpool captain also confirmed the Nigerian international is a doubt for this weekend’s game against St Mirren due to an injury he picked up in the win against Brondby.
“We will give him every chance for the weekend, a doubt but not ruled out for not,” Gerrard added.
