The Nigerian striker was unstoppable in September, and he looks poised to carry his stunning form into the rest of the season
Ex-AC Milan striker Beppe Incocciati has backed Victor Osimhen to shine even brighter under the guidance of manager Luciano Spalletti, maintaining that the Nigerian forward has the qualities to match his coach’s demands.
Osimhen is enjoying the best of times in the Italian Serie A after a topsy-turvy debut campaign following his arrival from Ligue 1 side Lille.
August even dampened his morale after receiving a red card in the first half of the season opener against Venezia, but September could not have gone any better for the youngster.
Osimhen scored in every match he featured in for the Neapolitans, bar the super-clash against Juventus on the 11th, a game Spalletti’s men won 2-1.
The Super Eagles striker found the back of the net seven times in five matches, including a brace each at Sampdoria and Leicester City (in the Europa League).
And it was no surprise to see the ex-Royal Charleroi lad win his first Serie A player of the month award.
Osimhen has started October in equally impressive fashion, winning a penalty that helped Napoli overcome high-flying Fiorentina on the third and scoring in Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat of the Central African Republic on the 10th.
And Incocciati is convinced that the Nigerian star’s physical and mental qualities make him a formidable goalscorer and goal creator.
“Osimhen? I glimpsed in him characteristics that matched well in the context of Napoli right from the start, both in terms of speed and physical abilities and in terms of height,” the former Napoli forward told Radio Marte, as per TuttoNapoli.
“He is also a boy with a great personality, who has shown will and commitment. With Spalletti, someone like him can only be strengthened; he knows both how to score and put his teammates in a position to score them.
“The boy is growing and improving, so we’re going to see some good ones.”
Osimhen will look to continue his brilliant form in front of goal when Napoli host Torino at the Diego Armando Stadium this weekend.
