The three-time African champions have suffered another injury blow ahead of the World Cup Qualifier doubleheader against Les Fauves
Super Eagles preparations for the 2022 World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic have taken another blow following an injury to Alex Iwobi.
The former Arsenal star has an unspecified injury as confirmed by Everton boss Rafael Benitez, and he’s a doubt for the trip to Old Trafford on Saturday.
“Alex has a little problem and I don’t know if he will be available for tomorrow,” Benitez said on Everton’s website.
As a result, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has called up Lorient striker Terem Moffi to replace the 25-year-old midfielder.
Iwobi’s absence is a big blow for the Super Eagles as his creativity is much needed in the team. It showed in the game against Liberia, which saw him provide the assists for Iheanacho’s brace.
He’s not the only key player that will be missing for Nigeria. The three-time African champions will also be without the services of Wilfred Ndidi and Oghenekaro Etebo for the doubleheader.
Nigeria take on CAR on October 7 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium before the return leg in Douala three days later.
