Leicester City coach applauds Lookman, Iheanacho for ‘outstanding’ Carabao Cup display

The two attackers were the heroes for the Foxes at Millwall on Wednesday night as the Premier League side booked their passage to the next round of the EFL Cup

Leicester City assistant manager Chris Davies has hailed outstanding Ademola Lookman and excellent Kelechi Iheanacho for their goalscoring contribution, which powered the Foxes to a fine 2-0 victory over Millwall at the Den in the Carabao Cup.

Ahead of kick-off, City were the big favourites over a Millwall side struggling in the Championship and sat 18th on the league table. Still, the Premier League side found their hosts a tough nut to crack, with the game goalless at halftime.

But Lookman, on loan from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig and enjoying his full debut following his summer switch, gave the Foxes the lead five minutes after the break.

The goal had Iheanacho written all over it, though, with the Super Eagles striker drilling a snapshot goalwards, which was spilled by Lions keeper George Long, allowing Lookman to slam home the rebound.

Iheanacho then wrapped up the victory with Leicester’s second two minutes from time, showing yet again that he’s a capable deputy for main man Jamie Vardy who was given the night off.

After the game, Brendan Rodgers’ right-hand man Davies was full of praise for the Nigerian duo’s performance and goals, which sank Millwall.

“Ade [Lookman] has been outstanding since he came in, with his training and mentality,” Davies told BBC.

“That’s been a real highlight, and he got his rewards today.

“It was a game of few chances so we had to work hard for the chances we got. It was great for Ade to get the goal.

“Kele scored an excellent goal; he set up the first one and then scored with a great strike. His all-round play was really good, and it was a goalscoring performance, which is always good for a striker.”

It’s Iheanacho’s second goal of the season for Leicester, following his Community Shield winner over Manchester City in August.

The former Golden Eaglets hero finished last campaign as the Foxes’ top scorer with 19 goals in all competitions, including 12 in the Premier League.
