The Turkish giants are looking to bring in extra firepower when the winter window opens, but their primary target is not interested in a move
Nigerian attacker Anthony Nwakaeme has expressed his readiness to ink a contract extension with Trabzonspor as he now feels a part of the club.
Injuries and loss of form reduced Nwakaeme’s efficiency in front of goal last term. The Nigerian winger managing just seven goals in 34 league matches.
It was his lowest tally of Super Lig goals since he joined the Black Sea Storm in 2018. Nwakaeme hit double figures of ten and 11 goals in his first two seasons at the club.
The 32-year-old forward is, however, back to his best, accounting for four goals and two assists in five league games so far this campaign.
Nwakaeme’s contract, though, expires next summer, and he could sign a pre-contract with another club in January, with Fenerbahce reportedly among clubs looking to steal the Nigerian from under the noses of Trabzonspor.
Fans, who nicknamed him the Wizard, have called for Nwakaeme to shun the advances of admiring rivals.
And the former Hapoel Beer Sheva ace has confessed his willingness to stay in Trabzon but emphasises that the decision lies with the club bosses.
“I have been with Trabzonspor since 2018,” the former Hapoel Raanana forward told Karadeniz Gazette.
“Now I feel like a part of it. I want to stay. Of course, the management will make the final decision.”
Recently, Nwakaeme became the first Trabzonspor player in 44 years to score in each of his first four league matches, but that run was halted at the weekend.
The forward still provided the assist to the winning goal as the coach Abdullah Avci-tutored side edged Kasimpasa 1-0 at the Recep Tayyip Erdogan Stadium.
