The Nigerian striker scored 35 goals in all competitions last season and could yet repeat the same number this season after finding the back of the net again
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu just can’t stop scoring after he scored the winner for Genk for the second consecutive game.
Onuachu scored the winner in Genk’s Europa League win over Rapid Vienna on Thursday night, and he has done the same again on Sunday.
The 27-year-old striker came off the bench to help The Smurfs claim a 2-1 win over St.Truiden at Stayen in their Belgian Jupiler League clash.
Onuachu started the game from the bench with his compatriot Ike Ugbo replacing him in the lineup. However, Genk struggled in the opening half, struggling to manage one shot on target.
It got worse for them as Yuma Suzuki put the hosts ahead in the third minute of the first half added time. The second half resumed with Genk struggling to create anything upfront.
Knowing his side are facing defeat, Genk coach decided to bring in his talismanic striker Onuachu for the ineffective Ugbo. The Super Eagles star’s introduction brought more life to Genk’s play, and they drew level in the 73rd minute through John Paintsil.
The goal gave Genk the belief, and in the 83rd minute, Onuachu got on the end of a Junya Ito’s header before firing the winner past Daniel Schmidt in St. Truiden goal.
It’s his fourth goal in six league games this season and his sixth in ten matches. He’s on course to match his last season’s record of 35 goals in all competitions should he continue at this rate.
